Chapter 1.9 – Instinct

What happens when a sim who has always followed his instinct decides to second-guess it? And if his instinct has always lead him to disappear before forming the bonds of friendship, then how would ignoring it, just this one time, possibly change things? Julian is a sim who fits that description exactly. For the first time in his life, Julian decides to stay despite his instinct telling him it is time to leave.

Of course, he dismisses the possibility that he may actually be becoming attached to Sunset Valley. Nevermind the compelling window to his mostly-forgotten past; that property on the bluff is worth a small fortune. All he needs is some extra cash to fix the place up and build a respectible home there. Then, he could realize it’s full potential.

And making extra cash is not a problem. He thrives as an “associate” of the Outstanding Citizen’s Warehouse corp and seems naturally adept at the various skills required. Julian also often takes his work home – literally.

But all is not well. Julian learns through the grapevine that Bebe has decided to spend some time back at her parent’s place. It shouldn’t bother him a bit. But the phone call to her says differently. He searches for a reason why he cares at all, filtering out the most obvious one, and is satisfied with the excuse that he is simply being sure that his financial arrangement with her is still intact.

Against his better judgement, he visits her at her parent’s home. She seems genuinely surprised to see him.

She talks to him about friendship and courtesy, and admits that she would like to get to know him better. In his mind, he attributes his accelerated heart rate and breathing to the bad decor, and tries to keep his focus on his goal of making money from that cursed shack and getting it out of his life for good.
She asks him why he avoids her and the cottage. Is there something he was afraid of? He avoids the issue and tells her that he has been working overtime for a promotion. She asks him what he does for a living. He tells her that his is in “acquisitions” and quickly changes the subject back to her coming back to the cottage.

He stays for dinner, with Bebe’s parents quirks on full display. Even though she is still confused and uneasy about Julian, by the end of evening she’s ready to return to Julian’s empty house.

  1. Oooooh, I like it. Julian’s such a creep…but I really like him in spite of myself. It takes a lot of skill to make a sim with those traits likable, so good job 🙂 It’s also nice to find a new legacy that employs proper grammar usage. lol

  2. Julian is indespicable, but lovable. Oddly, he is a lot like the character Althalus from the book by David and Leigh Eddings, The Redemption of Althalus. ^-^

  3. I agree with all the comments before me. You do like him in spite of your initial dislike for him. XD I really love reading his development, and refusal to be honest with himself about what he might just be feeling and thinking.
